Lavender fields
Discover our lavender fields in the heart of unspoilt nature, in blue lavender. Terre Ugo has around 45,000 lavender plants on its 7-hectare family estate. Lavender is one of the symbols you can't miss if you come to visit our beautiful region: its perfume, its color, the bees... Let yourself be carried away by the atmosphere of our little corner of happiness, just a few minutes from the town of Aix-en-Provence.
100% organic lavender
During your visit to the estate, you'll discover a species of lavender: Lavandin Grosso. This variety is the result of a natural hybridization between true lavender and spike lavender, and generally grows on plateaus at altitudes of between 200 and 1,000 meters.
Our cultivation is entirely organic and respects the environment. We do not apply any treatments to our lavender fields, not even water.
From February to March, around thirty sheep join the estate to carry out natural weeding. These sheep feast on the weeds that grow between the lavender plants, which is both beneficial and natural for us. Don't worry, they don't touch the lavender plants, as their strong taste and perfume repels them.
When and where can you see lavender in bloom in Aix-en-Provence?
Lavender blooms between the end of June and the end of July, which is the best time to come and contemplate this mauve color. If you come to visit us in August, you'll have just as good a chance to see the evolution of this flower, which, because of its species, tends to be grayer, but retains its concentration of fragrance and benefits.
The harvest takes place at the end of August. We keep some of the flowers to make products for our shop, where you can find lavender sachets, lavender bouquets and many other products based on this emblematic flower... The other part of our harvest is distilled to make our essential oil.
Eco-grazing: A sustainable commitment for our lavender fields
At Terre Ugo, we are committed to preserving the environment while maintaining the exceptional quality of our lavender products. This is why we have chosen to practice eco-grazing in our lavender fields. This natural method involves letting animals such as sheep graze on our land, to maintain and fertilize our crops in an environmentally-friendly way.
The benefits of eco-grazing
Eco-grazing offers many advantages, both for lavender and for the environment:
Natural soil maintenance: animals graze on weeds, limiting the use of pesticides and promoting biodiversity.
Improved soil fertility: Sheep naturally enrich the soil with organic matter, improving soil quality without the need for chemical fertilizers.
Reduced carbon footprint: This traditional and respectful method reduces our environmental impact, by limiting the use of agricultural machinery and chemicals.
Thanks to eco-grazing, we ensure that our lavender crops thrive in a healthy, balanced ecosystem, while contributing to the preservation of natural resources and animal welfare. It's a strong commitment to more sustainable agriculture that respects nature.
Come and discover our lavender fields and let yourself be seduced by our authentic, eco-responsible approach, which makes all the difference to the quality of our products.
